Having seen this with my own eyes living in this big ‘ole rotten apple of a city and working at an institute of higher learning, witnessing first hand what students leave in dorm rooms and on the street after the school year ends, I can also confirm that sadly, this does happen. Tons of
shit new or gently used items get tossed every year by these kids. I did not know that certain schools set up donation areas for this stuff, which is a good start but it makes it even more unfortunate that these kids would rather toss items in the trash than donate them to someone who would appreciate this stuff. Happy hunting…
‘Tis the season to be jolly
and shit and I’d be the jolliest photographer in all the land if someone were to put this book in my Xmas stocking this year! Ok cut the cheesy holiday talk, I really want this book. I’ve had my eyes on it for awhile now but have never gotten around to hunting down a new copy. It’s out there for sure and I’m sure it is waiting to start its new life on my bookshelf 😉
If you’re going to an ugly Christmas sweater party this year, do it with purpose! Nas is selling his “Kneeling Santa” sweaters through his HSTRY clothing brand. According to the site:
“A portion of proceeds will go to The Center for Court Innovation, which seeks to help create a more effective and humane justice system, reducing both crime and incarceration.”
Spoiler alert: I purchased the red one.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year…
February is a great month. It’s my birthday month, Aquarius Season is in full effect, Black History Month and this year it’s also Mardi Gras season! With so many wonderful things happening in February, I’ve decided to begin what will possibly be a new tradition around these parts. The 5 for $25 Photography Project has officially launched and I invite you to take advantage of this special offer while you can. Read all about it here and enjoy this beautiful month!
If there’s one thing that you should know about me by now, it’s that I do not endorse services or share product information that I don’t believe in. I just don’t. Maggie Mistal is someone that I believe in for a few reasons:
- I know her (as in I know her in real life and not just on social media). We both worked on the Martha Stewart Living Radio channel on Sirius XM a few years ago before the channel ceased production.
- I’ve actually watch Maggie build her empire. While I was working at Sirius XM as an engineer, Maggie was an on air host of her own career advice show while building her brand and career consulting business. She’s now a wildly successful career coach living her dream. She doesn’t just talk it, she lives it.
- Maggie is an extremely encouraging, positive and powerful force that can not only help you succeed in your career goals but can help you figure out what those goals might be.
I recently spoke to Maggie as I myself and embarking on a new career chapter as I take my creative services to the next level and she mentioned her “Mastermind Group Program“. You can read all about program here: http://www.maggiemistal.com/services/monthly-mastermind-program/
I highly recommend this for anyone feeling like they need a change for the new year. Whether it be a career change or other life changing goals, Maggie’s honest and inspiring advice can definitely help you on your journey. Tell her I sent you!

I saw a quick interview with the author of Sporting Guide: Los Angeles 1897 Liz Goldwyn and after watching the trailer for the book was immediately intrigued. Check it out below.
Apparently “sporting guides” were handed out at brothels way back when as a sort of who’s who of the best *ahem* providers of service. Amazing. According to the author’s Instagram page, Sporting Guide is described as a book “set in LA 1897 in the world of vice and prostitution…before Hollywood.” I’m all in. You can purchase the book from the author’s site. Oh, she also happens to be the brother of Tony Goldwyn aka President “Fitz” from Scandal for all my fellow gladiators.
File this under gifts that would look lovely underneath my Christmas tree…
The last time that I purchased a Panasonic Lumix was back in 2008 or 2009 when I purchased the then new Lumix DMC LX3. I loved it and it still works today just as well as it did then however, it’s time for an upgrade. This would be the perfect everyday camera because let’s face it, DSLRs are heavy AND it shoots 4K video. Great bonus feature. Head over to B and H for more info.
Yes, that’s an ISO of over 4 million. I read about the camera when it was announced but now that there is footage of its performance, I can officially start drooling. Seriously, technology is advancing at a ridiculous rate but this camera is unbelievable. To be able to see an image in pitch black darkness without the use of infrared is mind blowing. There are a ton of other specs to go crazy over and if you’re blessed enough to spare it…$30,000 that is, go ahead and slide this under my Xmas tree this year. Think of it as you putting a few thousand coins in your karma bank.
Check out the new footage here or head over to a favorite site of mine, No Film School, to see the video and read more about the camera.
I’m starting a list of things that you can get the photographer/videographer/filmmaker/visual artist in your life. You know Christmas is right around the…whatever.
ADD THIS TO THE LIST OF THINGS YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY GET ME FOR *insert next holiday here*
